Materials used in fashion, sport, interiors and automotive principally come from 4 main sources: plants, animals, man-made cellulosics and petrochemicals.
Plants give us ‘natural fibers’ from cellulose found in their seeds, stems or leaves.
Animals are also used for ‘natural’ fibers from their hair.
Leather, although not a fiber, is also considered a ‘natural’ material from animal skin.
Petrochemicals, derived from fossil fuels like crude oil and coal, give us ‘synthetic’ fibers.
Man-made cellulosic fibers are mostly derived from forest resources.
